Bishr and Bashr, the sons of Ghalib al-Asad, narrated that they, once, accompanied Imam al-Husayn (as) at the Arafat Night when he left his tent with submission and reverence. He walked slowly until he, accompanied by a group of his household, sons, and servants, stopped at the left side of Mount Arafat and turned his face towards the Holy Ka`bah. He then raised his hands (for supplication) to the level of his face, just like a poor man begging food, and said:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTTyCkEljnk

Conversation between fourth Imam Zaynul Abideen (as) and Shibli: A must for those planning to go for Hajj
When the fourth Imam Zaynul Abideen (as) returned from Hajj, Shibli came to meet him. They engaged in the following conversation:

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): Did you go for Hajj O Shibli?

Shibli: Yes O son of the Messenger of Allah.

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): Did you stop at the Miqat (Miqat are the stations at which pilgrims on the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Makkah, put on Ihram, the pilgrim's garment) and put away the sewn clothes and perform the sacred bath?

    Shibli: Yes

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): When you stopped at Miqat did you make the intention that you are taking off the clothes of disobedience and putting on the clothes of obedience?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): And when you had taken off your sewn clothes did you make the intention that you had taken off hypocrisy and entering dubious acts?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): And when you took the bath did you have the intention that you are washing yourself from all sins and errors?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): You did not stop at Miqat, nor did you take off sewn clothes nor did you perform the sacred bath.

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): Did you cleanse yourself and put on Ihram and fulfill your covenant of Hajj?

    Shibli: Yes

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): When you did this did you have the intention that you are cleaning yourself with the nurah of the sincere repentance to Almighty Allah (SWT) the most high?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): When you put on the Ihram did you have the intention that you are forbidding yourself everything that Almighty Allah (SWT) has forbidden?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): When you fulfilled the covenant of Hajj did you have the intention that you have nullified all other covenants with other than Allah (SWT)?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): You did not cleanse yourself nor did you put on the Ihram nor did you fulfill the covenant of hajj.

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): Did you enter the Miqat and pray the two Rakats of the Ihram and did you chant Talbiyah?

    Shibli: Yes
Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): When you entered the Miqat, did you make the intention of entering as a visitor?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): When you prayed the two Rakats did you make the intention that you are trying to get closer to Allah (SWT) with the best of acts from the prayers and the biggest of good deeds from the acts of worship?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): When you chanted the Talbiyah did you have the intention that you were talking to almighty Allah (SWT) with all obedience and keeping quiet from all disobedience?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): Did you enter the Haram and did you see the Holy Kaaba and did you pray there?

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): When you entered the Haram did you have the intention that you were prohibiting on yourself all backbiting of all the Muslims from the Nations of Islam?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): And when you reached Makka did you make the intention with your heart that you had come to Almighty Allah (SWT)?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): You have neither entered Haram nor seen the Holy Kaaba nor prayed.

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): Did you go round the house and did you touch the Rukn and did you make Saee?

    Shibli: Yes

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): And when you did the Saee did you have the intention that you were running towards Almighty Allah (SWT) and did Allah (SWT) the knower of all secrets know this?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): Did you touch the Hajar al-Aswad (The Black Stone) and did you stand at the Maqam Ibrahim (Station of Abraham) and did you pray two Rakats on it?

    Shibli: Yes

Here the Imam Zaynul Abideen (as) gave a scream as if he was about to leave this world saying Ah! Ah! Whoever touches the black stone it is as if he has shaken hands with Almighty Allah (SWT). So Look O poor chap that you do not destroy the reward of something whose sacredness has been made very great and you do not spoil your Handshake by disobedience and by grasping evil like the sinners.

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): Did you stay a short time at Arafa and did you climb Jabal al-Rahma and did you recognize the wadi of Namira and did to supplicate to Almighty Allah (SWT) near al-Mil and al-Jamaraat?

    Shibli: Yes

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): Did you conceive by your stay in Arafa the gnosis (Irfan) of Almighty Allah (SWT) and the knowledge of good things and acts; and did you conceive that your book of deeds was in the hands of Allah (SWT) and that Allah (SWT) had full knowledge of your secrets and what is in your heart?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): And when you climbed the Jabal al-Rahma did you have the intention that Almighty Allah (SWT) may have mercy on all believing men and all believing women and that He will help all Muslim men and women?

    Shibli: Yes

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): When you reached Mina and pelted the Jamarah did you have the intention that you have attained your goal and your Lord has fulfilled all your needs?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): And when you pelted the Jamarah did you have the intention that you had pelted your enemy Iblees and by completing this precious Hajj you had disobeyed him?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): And when you shaved your head did you have the intention that you had cleansed yourself from all filth and from all the injustice of the children of Adam and that you had purified yourself from sin just like a new born baby.

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): And when you slaughtered your hadiya did you have the intention that you are cutting the artery of greed by holding fast to the reality of piety and that you are following the tradition of Prophet Ibrahim / Abraham (as) when he was prepared to slighter his son, the fruit of his heart, through which he established the Sunna of gaining nearness to Almighty Allah (SWT) for those who came after him?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): And when you returned to Makka and did the Tawaaf of Ifadha did you have the intention that you had come back with the Mercy of Almighty Allah (SWT) to His obedience and that you had clasped His love that you had performed your duty to Him and had gained nearness to him?

    Shibli: No

Imam Zaynul Abideen (as): Then you did not reach Mina nor did you pelt the Jamaraat nor did you shave your head nor did you slaughter the hadiya nor did you pray in the Masjid Al-Kheef nor did you return to Makkah and perform the Tawaaf of Ifadha. Go back because you have not performed Hajj!
Having heard all this Shibli started to cry because of what he had missed in his Hajj and he continued to learn the secrets of Hajj until he could perform the Hajj through knowledge and understanding.

    HAJJ
    The Spiritual Climax
    ========================================================================
Familiarise yourself with once in a lifetime experience of Hajj
15 OF THE SPIRITUAL ASPECTS OF DIFFERENT ACTS (ARKANS) OF HAJJ
    cid:image001.png@01CFBF0E.3AB017A0
     1. When one enters the desert and sees the mountain-roads and other obstacles of travel, he should remember the time of his departure from this world and the obstacles he will face in the world of Barzakh and Mahshar (where we all will be gathered). The lonely path should remind one of the loneliness in the grave; likewise, the fear of highway robbers and wild animals should remind one of the fears of punishment in Barzakh.

    2. On arrival at Miqat & while wearing the Ihraam, one should remember the occasion when he will be wrapped up in Kafan (which resembles the Ihraam) with which he will present himself before the Almighty.

    3. The Talbiyah is a response to the invitation of the Almighty, though while hoping for acceptance of his response, he should also fear its rejection, i.e. getting a reply of "Laa Labbaik wa laa sa'daik": your response is rejected!  Thus one should repent of his utterly worthless deeds and hope only for His grace and forgiveness. The recitation of Talbiyah marks the beginning of Hajj, which is a delicate situation, for, it is narrated that when the 4th Imam Zain ul-Abideen (A.S.) wore the Ihraam, and mounted his ride, his colour turned pale and his whole body trembling, and he could not recite the Talbiyah.  When asked why he did not recite the Talbiyah, the Imam replied: I fear that the Almighty may answer with "Laa labbaik wa laa sa'daik" (your response is rejected!).  When the Imam did finally recite the Talbiyah, he fainted and fell from his mount on to the ground.  He was brought back to consciousness and mounted the animal again. This occurred often till he finished the Hajj.

    4. When one hears people reciting the Talbiyah, one should realize that it is the response to the Almighty's call in the Qur'an:"And proclaim among men the Pilgrimage: they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel, coming from every remote path" (Sura al-Hajj, 22:27); and from this call one should remember the Blowing of the Trumpet when all people will issue forth from their graves towards the place of Judgment on the Day of Qiyaamah.

    5. When one enters Makkah he should remember that he has entered a holy place wherein everyone is afforded peace and security, and the hope that thereby he will be saved from Eternal punishment. He should be concerned about his salvation and forgiveness. Of course, at all times he should hope for forgiveness, as indeed, the House is a dignified place, the Absolute Owner is Infinitely Generous, His Mercy is All-encompassing and He does treat his guests in a most befitting manner.

    6. In the majestic House of God, i.e. Kaa'ba one should imagine beholding the Owner, and hope that as he has been successful in seeing the House, he will also be successful in meeting the Almighty, and he should thank Him for granting him such a wonderful opportunity.

    7. When circumambulating (Tawaaf) one should fill one's mind with respect, love, hope and fear, and know that making Tawaaf makes him like Malaaika-e-Muqarrabeen who continuously make Tawaaf around the Great Throne (A'rsh-e-Aazam). He should realize that the general purpose of Tawaaf is the circumambulation of the heart with the remembrance of the Lord of the House. This may be the hint thrown by the hadeeth that Bait-ul-Ma'moor is the House in Heaven similar to Kaa'ba on earth, around which the angels move similar to man's circumambulation on earth.

    8. Kissing the Hajar al-Aswad represents kissing God's hand on earth. The people's covenant are recorded on it, for, the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.W..) is reported to have said that the Hajar al-Aswad is God's hand amongst the creation for the pilgrim to shake hands with Him just as the servant shakes that of his master. And the 6thImam Jafar as-Sadiq (A.S.) has said: "when the Almighty took oaths from his creatures, he ordered the Hajar al-Aswad to take it down on earth", and, thus, we say near it: "Amaanatee addaituha wa meethaaqee ta-a'hhadtuhu" i.e., I have fulfilled my promise and oath so that the Hajar al-Aswad may bear witness to it.

    9. And he is reported to have said, "Rukn-e-Yamanee is one of the doors of Heaven which has not been shut from the time it was first opened."
    10. The purpose of kissing and hugging on to the cloth of Kaa'ba or any of its parts should be to gain proximity to the almighty by loving His House and hoping for salvation of one's body from the Hellfire, just as a wrong-doer clings to the cloth of a King seeking mercy and forgiveness.

    11. The sayee (The act of walking between the two hills - Safaa and Marwah.) resembles a place in a King's court and uncertainty of the Pilgrim of what the King will decree for him. And while traversing between the two hills he should remember his running between the two scales of deeds on the Day of Judgment.

    12. When one reaches Arafah and sees the large crowd of people with different languages each supplicating and begging in his own tongue and each carrying out duties according to his leader's instruction and guidancehe should remember the Day of Reckoning and its fearful atmosphere with all people lost here and there, every group under its own leader and prophet. When these thoughts predominate, one should raise hands in supplication and pray with all sincerity to God to accept his Hajj and that he may be resurrected in the company of the virtuous ones. Apparently the 12th Imam Muhammad Al-Mahdi (A.S.) is also present there; thus, it is not unlikely that due to the presence of these pure souls mercy is showered on all present! Thus, there is a hadeeth:"The worst sin is that of a man who reaches Arafah and still feels that God has not forgiven him!"

13, When one returns from Arafah to Makkah and re-enters the Haram, he should consider it as a good omen that God has accepted him by allowing him to enter the Haram and that He has welcomed him to His proximity and has granted him protection from Hellfire.

14, When one reaches Mina for Ramy-e-Jamrah (throwing pebbles at Jamrah), his intention should be obedience to God's commands; in such a state he should follow the example set by the prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) when Satan appeared before him at this place and the Almighty ordered him to throw pebbles at Satan i.e. one should intend throwing pebbles at Satan.

15, The slaughtering of the sacrificial animal is the supreme indication of overcoming Satan and his evil-commanding-self, and thereby freedom from Hellfire. Thus at that moment he should endeavour to repent of and refrain from bad deeds.

There is a hadeeth, which says "The sign of acceptance of Hajj is that the person's condition after Hajj should be BETTER than before Hajj".  Another hadeeth says "The sign of acceptance of Hajj is refraining from all sins previously committed and changing bad friends to good ones and changing gatherings for vain purposes to gatherings for the remembrance of God."

    And the worthiest of being feared and the Lord of forgiveness;
    أَسْأَلُكَ بِحَقّ هذَا الْيَوْمِ الّذِي جَعَلْتَهُ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ عِيداً،
as’aluka bihaqqi hadha aliyawmi alladhy ja`altahu lilmuslimena `edan
I beseech You in the name of this day, which You have decided to be feast for the Muslims,
    وَلِمُحَمّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه ذُخْراً وَمَزِيداً
wa limuhammadin salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi dhukhran wa mazedan
And to be safety and increasing honor for Muhammad—peace of Allah be upon him and his Household—
    أَنْ تُصَلّيَ عَلَى مُحَمّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمّدٍ
an tusalliya `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin
(I beseech You) that You may send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
    وَأَنْ تُدْخِلَنِي فِي كُلّ خَيْرٍ أَدْخَلْتَ فِيهِ مُحَمّداً وَآلَ مُحَمّدٍ،
wa an tudkhilany fe kulli khayrin adkhalta fehi muhammadan wa ala muhammadin
And You may include me with every item of goodness with which You have included Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
    وَأَنْ تُخْرِجَنِي مِنْ كُلِّ سُوءٍ أَخْرَجْتَ مِنْهُ مُحَمّداً وَآلَ مُحَمّدٍ
wa an tukhrijany min kulli su‘in akhrajta minhu muhammadan wa ala muhammadin
And that You save me from any item of evil from which You have saved Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
    صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَيْهِمْ.
    salawatuka `alayhi wa `alayhim
May Your blessings be upon him and upon them.
    اللّهُمّ إِنّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ مَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادُكَ الصَّالِحُونَ،
allahumma inne as’aluka khayra ma sa’alaka `ibaduka alssalihuna
O Allah: I pray You for the best of all that for which Your righteous servants have prayed You,
    وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِمَّا اسْتَعَاذَ مِنْهُ عِبَادُكَ الصَّالِحُونَ.
wa a`udhu bika mimma ista`adha minhu `ibaduka alssalihuna
And I seek Your protection against all that against which Your righteous servants have asked Your protection.
